The safelist and email advertising.

Tutorial on using a Safelist

Safelists:

Safelists are internet advertising specialties that focus on your email marketing. They are called "Safe" because they are double opt-in membership venues in which the members join the list, agree to the terms of the list when they join, then validate or verify their email addresses and agree to the terms of service a second time. Members then send their email ads to the list members in return for getting email from the members. No one besides Admin ever sees your email address. When the safelist sends out the email, the members get the mail from the List itself - not from the individual member. This prevents people from harvesting your email and then sending you their ads outside the list. You and your isp are also protected from Spam complaints.

Safelists require two email addresses: one for the List or Subscription email, another for the Contact email. Use marketing friendly email services as you are required to actually receive email from the list. You will receive some commercial email in the Contact email, so use an email service that accepts bulk email. If a member's email bounces for any reason, (is returned by the email service), the account is automatically suspended. If not looked after by the member in a timely manner, the account is deleted.

Most safelists have a list of email services they ban outright. Aol, comcast, excite, hotmail, msn, and other web-based email services are typically on the ban list. As members use all types of accepted email, be sure to use some kind of spam word checker, like the Email Genius program, to ensure your email will get past the filters.

Safelist Submitters:

One of the keys to using safelists in your online marketing is to use LOTS of them. As your time is limited, this usually means utilizing one or more safelist submitters. A submitter is a TOOL you use to auto join, validate, send ads, and manage large numbers of safelists. Submitters save people time while ensuring your ads are kept circulating on a regular basis. There are two types of submitters:

Web-based submitters
These are membership sites which people join and pay a subscription to use. Members can join safelists, manage their safelists and then auto submit their ads to the safelists that are in the submitter's database.

Desktop submitters

There are several desktop safelist submitters on the market which are scripts you download to your computer. Once installed, you create your profile and then join the lists using the submitter. Most of them also have auto validation and then box cleaning functions as well. As a reward for attending Work Digital Live Training sessions and webinars WorkDigital Associates receive a the download file to a desktop safelist submitter.

Email Requirements:
Because you typically join large numbers of safelists at one time when you use a submitter, it is recommended you use a type of commercial email service called Pop3. Tools like autovalidation and box cleaning scripts are compatible with commercial pop3 email services, where as they are not with the web-based services like gmail.

If you own your own domain that is hosted on a server, you can create pop3 email accounts to use in your safelist marketing. Always verify with your server provider that they will allow you to use your pop3 accounts for commercial email purposes.

If you do not have a hosted account, there are service providers that specialize in providing pop3 email. Find a list of providers on the SERVICES page.
