Work Digital E commerce marketing article:
Manual surf traffic exchanges and online marketing.

Manual Surf Traffic Exchanges:

Manual surf traffic exchanges are internet advertising specialties that serve a dual purpose:
  • Show your websites off to members
  • Send traffic, or visitors, to your website
These are double opt in programs in which you must join, agree to abide by the TOS of the exchange, as well as validate your email. Surfing is done by clicking on something - usually a character or picture - to move the surf from site to site. The surf is on a timer which can vary from 5 to 60 seconds.

They are also credit based systems meaning you need credits assigned to your sites for them to show on the surf. Usually you get some credits for joining an exchange. You get more for surfing or doing other activities. Everytime you show one of your websites it costs you credits. Everytime you view other members sites, or surf, you get credits. The ratio of all that is determined by your membership level.

There are uniques strengths as well as weakness to exchanges in general, and to manual surf exchanges in particular:

Overall Traffic Exchange Strength:
You want traffic to your website, visitors, and hits? These venues deliver just that.

Overall Traffic Exchange Weakness:
Many programs do NOT allow you to use any kind of traffic exchange - in particular the Adsense program. So, if you are going to do adsense, you CANNOT put their ads on any site you will then run in any kind of traffic exchange.

Manual Surf Strength:

Members view your webpages.
Because the only way they can advance the surf is by waiting for the timer to run down and then physically clicking on something, they are basically captive audiences. They can't help but see, or hear, your website. This is very useful for getting sign ups.

Some programs allow Manual Surf sites.
While the Adsense program says no to any exchange, the My NetAudioAds says yes.

Good for sites with Audio and Video.
Most manual surf sites allow self-launching audio or video. Now, your sites are NOT going to stay in a surf window long enough for your Personal Assistant to walk the viewer through the process or your movie to show. But, the timers are usually set long enough so the member can at least take your website to a seperate window

Good for your Affiliate Links.
Because members are actually viewing your websites in the surf, these are excellent places to place your affiliate links at like your WorkDigital sign up link.

Manual Surf Weakness:

Time consuming + not a lot of hits to your sites
Because people have to pay attention and click on something, it is a very time consuming activity. Members can pay for clicks of course - but the whole thing works based on members actually surfing. Members may in fact only surf 25 - 100 pages a day: which does not add up to a lot of hits to your specific website.

Difficult to reach entire database
Many manual surf exchanges have thousands of members. If you are new and a free member with limited credits, you will simply not reach all of them. You will only reach what ever it is your credits will allow and depending on what day it is, and who all are surfing, you may only reach a tiny fraction of the membership ever. This is one of the major disappointments new members especially experience with manual surf sites. They join a site with 30,000 members thinking their website will be shown to all 30k. In reality, they are not and never will be unless you have very deep pockets. (Even then it can be difficult.)

Key to using these online marketing resources is to join many of them and then surf a bit everyday. If you join 7, divide them up so you surf one of them each day. It is a manual process so you must commit yourself to 20 - 30 minutes everyday to do this type of marketing.
